Feeding Frenzy
Five ingredients needed to make a cassoulet (or an investor-ready infrastructure platform)
Synopsis
I lived in Castelnaudary in the south of France when I was younger. If you have been there, you will know it for one thing: cassoulet. Castelnaudary considers itself the home of this archetypal French stew, and locals take its preparation very seriously. There are endless arguments about what constitutes a proper cassoulet, but the basic ingredients are well understood: white beans, pork, Toulouse sausage, duck confit and broth. Clearly a light, summery lunch for the health conscious. Leave one ingredient out and you might still have a perfectly good meal. But it isn’t cassoulet. The bar is very high to be able to use this particularly evocative label.
A similar logic applies if you want to build an investment platform that is ideally suited to the needs of large-scale infrastructure investors. In Australia and elsewhere, this is a hot topic amongst renewable energy developers, many of whom aspire to become fully-fledged independent power producers as the energy transition continues to transform energy generation and a host of power-hungry industries.
